The Cyan Velvet Project rose from the ashes of the mid-90's industrial rock at the dawn of new millennium (editorial note: year 2000). Founding members Diz and Samuel shared a vision of a band with no genre boundaries, something that'll satisfy all of their musical creativity so they wouldn't need other band projects anymore. The main guidelines were however formed pretty soon: modern metal with industrial elements without being pumping, over-masculine and militaristic. Three demos and four years later the time was right for CVP's first "official" release, the Retrogression EP in spring 2004.

At that time the band was formed of two vocalists, Samuel and Romy, guitarist/programmer Diz and drummer Anton LoVeu. After Retrogression EP Anton decided that he had no time for two bands so he would continue with his own band Feiled. Atheos and Baba were found rather fast and for a moment CVP was whole again. The next big news was that Romy would leave the band due to family reasons in the beginning of 2005. Again CVP wasted no time when Maria was signed in and the recordings for the next release, the Heretic EP, could begin. The EP was officially released almost in original schedule in July 2005 and after the release CVP seriously started to look for a record deal. The effort was worth it, and in April 2006 CVP finally signed the long-waited contract with Poko Rekords.

The debut full-length album The Essence of Disposal was released in fall 2006 and it instantly gathered many positive reviews. After the release CVP did some touring, including the first gig outside Finland in Rome, Italy in summer 2007. CVP was also nominated for the best new act category at Finnish Metal Awards which was held in February 2007, though the first place went to Profane Omen. At this point so many new songs had been composed that it seemed like it would be the time for another album. The recordings of the second album The Towers And the Blizzard begun in October 2007, this time without producers or recording engineers as the band wanted to have more control over recordings. The album was finished in December 2007 and released on March 19, 2008.
